While recent studies demonstrate measurable differences between dietary approaches, additional long-term research is needed to clarify how nutrition contributes to lifelong oral health (Oba et al., 2025).

Is oral disease connected with overall health?

​

Current research suggests possible associations between periodontal disease and broader systemic health, including kidney and other organ systems. However, the evidence supporting these broader relationships remains less robust than the evidence describing the direct effects of oral disease on dental tissues. Further investigation is ongoing to better understand these potential connections (Oskarsson et al., 2021; McCartan & Gilbert, 2026).
